What Size Deck Box Do You Need for a Sleeved Deck?

- 60 cards: a 100+ box fits
Deck boxes are named by how many double-sleeved cards they hold. Ultimate Guard says its Boulder 100+ fits 100 double-sleeved cards, 120 single-sleeved or 210 unsleeved. A Pokemon or Lorcana deck is 60 cards, so a 100+ box holds it sleeved with room to spare. Size up if you double sleeve or carry tokens.
“Deck box” also means a large outdoor storage chest, so check that a listing is for trading cards before you buy.
Match the box to your game
Deck sizes come from each game’s official rules.
| Game | Cards to carry | Box that fits (sleeved) |
|---|---|---|
| Pokemon | Exactly 60 | 100+ |
| Disney Lorcana | At least 60 | 100+ |
| Yu-Gi-Oh! | 40 to 60 Main Deck, up to 15 Extra Deck, up to 15 Side Deck | 100+ for all three |
| One Piece Card Game | 1 Leader, 50 cards, 10 DON!! | 100+ |
The “box that fits” column is our reading of the maker figures below, not a rule from the publishers. A thicker sleeve or a bigger sideboard can push you up a size.

Reading the numbers on the box
Ultimate Guard explains the naming on its Boulder 100+ page: the number is the double-sleeved count. The same box holds more cards with thinner protection:
| Protection | Boulder 100+ capacity |
|---|---|
| Double-sleeved | 100 |
| Single-sleeved | 120 |
| Unsleeved | 210 |
Ultimate Guard adds that its figures assume its own sleeves, and that sleeves from other brands may affect the capacity. The Boulder 100+ measures 76 x 98.5 x 75 mm.
Gamegenic uses the same naming. Its Squire 100+ XL holds 100 regular double-sleeved cards plus room for tokens.

What else goes in the box
A deck box rarely holds only the deck. Count the extras your game uses before you pick a size:
| Game | Extras that travel with the deck | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Pokemon | Damage-counter dice, a coin-flip die, condition markers | Elite Trainer Box contents list |
| Disney Lorcana | Game tokens (a First Chapter starter deck includes 11) | Ravensburger product page |
| One Piece Card Game | A separate 10-card DON!! deck | Bandai Comprehensive Rules |
| Flesh and Blood | Hero, weapon, equipment and token cards | Blitz Deck product page |
That is why Gamegenic sells an XL version of its 100+ box with room for tokens on top of 100 double-sleeved cards. If your extras are dice and markers, a box with a separate tray or compartment keeps them from scratching the sleeves.
Checking a box before you buy
Three questions settle the size:
- How many cards will you carry? The full deck, plus any Extra Deck, Side Deck or DON!! deck, plus spares.
- Single or double sleeved? Use the double-sleeved figure if you double sleeve, and the single-sleeved figure if not.
- Whose sleeves? Ultimate Guard warns that other brands’ sleeves can change the capacity, so allow a few cards of slack.
If your count lands right at a box’s limit, go up a size. A deck squeezed into a full box is hard to take out without bending the top cards.
Features worth paying for
- Room for tokens and dice. Many games use counters; a box with a tray or extra space keeps them with the deck.
- A lid that stays shut. Magnetic or tight-fitting lids keep the deck in a bag.
- A size that fits your sleeves. If you double sleeve, count each card as double-sleeved.
Good to know
A Pokemon Elite Trainer Box comes with a collector’s box and 4 dividers that will hold a sleeved deck at home. A deck box is still easier to carry to a store event.

Frequently asked questions
What does 100+ mean on a deck box?
It is the number of double-sleeved cards the box holds. Ultimate Guard's Boulder 100+ holds 100 double-sleeved cards, 120 single-sleeved cards or 210 unsleeved cards.
What size deck box do I need for a Pokemon deck?
A Pokemon deck has exactly 60 cards, so a 100+ box, rated for 100 double-sleeved cards, holds it with room for spare cards.
Do sleeve brands change how many cards fit?
Yes. Ultimate Guard rates its boxes with its own sleeves and says sleeves from other brands may affect the capacity. Allow a little spare room.
Is a trading card deck box the same as an outdoor deck box?
No. A card deck box is a small case for one deck of cards. Outdoor deck boxes are large storage chests for patios and yards; check the listing says it is for trading cards.
