At a glance
- Standard card (Pokemon, Lorcana, FaB)
- 63 x 88 mm (2.5 x 3.5 in)
- Standard sleeve (outer)
- 66 x 91 mm
- Japanese-size card (Yu-Gi-Oh!)
- Up to 59 x 86 mm
- Japanese-size sleeve (outer)

Pokemon, Disney Lorcana and Flesh and Blood use standard-size cards, about 63 x 88 mm, which take standard sleeves measuring about 66 x 91 mm on the outside. Yu-Gi-Oh! cards are smaller, up to 59 x 86 mm, and need Japanese-size sleeves, about 62 x 89 mm. Buy enough of one design for your whole deck.
The measurements below come from three sleeve makers’ own product pages. They agree closely, but check the pack you buy: sizes can differ by a millimeter between brands.
Sizes at a glance
| Sleeve type | Fits cards up to | Outer sleeve size | Games named by the maker |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard | 63 x 88 mm (Dragon Shield); 64 x 89 mm (Gamegenic) | 66 x 91 mm (Ultimate Guard, Gamegenic) | Pokemon, Lorcana, Flesh and Blood (Dragon Shield) |
| Japanese size (small, mini) | 59 x 86 mm (Dragon Shield) | 62 x 89 mm (Ultimate Guard) | Yu-Gi-Oh!, Cardfight!! Vanguard, Weiss Schwarz (Dragon Shield) |
Dragon Shield notes that “Japanese size” and “mini” are two names for the same sleeve.

Thickness: penny sleeves vs deck sleeves
Not every sleeve is made for shuffling. Ultra PRO publishes the thickness of its sleeve materials:
- Penny sleeves: 45 micron, front and back. Thin, cheap and meant for storage, not play.
- PRO-Matte and PRO-Gloss deck sleeves: 90 micron clear front, 120 micron back. Built to be shuffled.
- PRO-Fit inner sleeves: 50 micron, for double sleeving.
Ultra PRO says gloss sleeves give a clear, shiny view of the card, while matte sleeves are also clear but less reflective. Matte or gloss is a matter of taste; both protect the card.

Double sleeving
Double sleeving puts the card in a tight inner sleeve first, then into a regular deck sleeve. Dragon Shield says its perfect-fit inner sleeves cover the top of the card, which is usually slightly exposed in a normal sleeve. Dragon Shield sells its perfect-fit sleeves in side-loading, top-loading and sealable types.
Rules about sleeves
Konami’s rulebook says that if you sleeve a deck, all the sleeves have to be the same so your cards are not marked. Keep that in mind when a pack runs out: buy enough of one design for the whole deck plus a few spares.
| Game | Deck size | Sleeves to buy |
|---|---|---|
| Pokemon | Exactly 60 cards | At least 60, standard |
| Disney Lorcana | At least 60 cards | At least 60, standard |
| Yu-Gi-Oh! | 40 to 60 cards, plus up to 15 Extra Deck | Enough for the Main and Extra Deck, Japanese size |

How many sleeves come in a pack
Pack sizes differ by size and brand, which matters when every sleeve in a deck must match. From the makers’ pages:
- Ultimate Guard Katana standard: 100 sleeves per pack.
- Ultimate Guard Katana Japanese size: 60 sleeves per pack.
- Dragon Shield matte standard: 100 per case.
A 60-card Pokemon or Lorcana deck fits in one 100-pack with spares. A Yu-Gi-Oh! Main Deck of 40 cards fits in one 60-pack; a larger Main Deck plus an Extra Deck may need two packs of the same design, so buy them together. A Pokemon Elite Trainer Box includes 65 sleeves, enough for one deck.
Which size for which game
| Game | Card size | Sleeve to buy |
|---|---|---|
| Pokemon | Standard | Standard (66 x 91 mm) |
| Disney Lorcana | Standard | Standard |
| Flesh and Blood | Standard | Standard |
| Yu-Gi-Oh! | Japanese size (up to 59 x 86 mm) | Japanese size (62 x 89 mm) |
If you play two games, keep the sleeves apart: a Yu-Gi-Oh! card slides around inside a standard sleeve, and a standard card will not fit a Japanese-size sleeve.
Materials
Ultimate Guard describes its Katana sleeves as acid free with no PVC, and Gamegenic lists its Prime sleeves as polypropylene, acid-free and PVC-free. Look for the same on any sleeve you plan to leave cards in for a long time.
For a single valuable card, a sleeve is the first layer, not the last. Read sleeves and toploaders for the next step, or go back to how to protect trading cards for the full picture.
